Starry Night
Lego Mosaic

Here’s some info on my rather unique Starry Night Lego mosaic by Vincent van Gogh.

Source Images

So, I’ll admit. I found these images on the internet and had to steal them. I mean, whoever did this had a brilliant idea. I’ve seen other people attempt to do something like this, but this is the best one I’ve ever seen. Before or since. I believe that I used slightly different colors, due to the cost of the sand green bricks he used, but the result should be similar. The only thing, and I’m not sure you can see it here, is that he didn’t make the “Lego” logo on the studs going the same way!!

Different Style

I’ve never before or since done a mosaic like this. I went above and beyond that the original builder did and made mine a kind of 3 layer deal. I took his design and made this image of the orange plates behind it. I then used Light Bluish Gray plates to fill in the rest of the image. I wanted a boarder so that it would match the rest of my mosaics, so I put a full brick along the edge. This gives the background, the main picture studs, and then the boarder all different depths. 3 layers.

Importing to MLCad

Here’s my final image as seen in MLCad. I used the more vibrant colors (which were a bit cheaper). I’m not sure if the sand colors used in the original would be better or worse, but this is what I used.

I built this pattern in January of 2009 and the actual model construction is TBD. I’ve had the bricks to build it for YEARS and never got around to it. This model consists of 8,578 pieces or 7,584 bricks. It is 2′-6″ (76.2 cm) wide by 2′-0.7″ (62.7 cm) tall.

Final Product

I have all the bricks to complete this model. If I ever get off my lazy ass and actually build it, I’ll update this page. Today is 1/22/2018. We’ll see when this happens!
