James T. Kirk
Lego Mosaic

Here is some detail on my Captain James T. Kirk Lego Mosaic. It’s hard to hear you over how awesome he is.

Source Image

One day I came across this meme of Kirk and couldn’t stop laughing. At the time, I was watching my way through the various Star Trek series and reading up on how Shatner is kind of a douche. I found this halarious. The big picture is the source image. The little one is the image cropped and sized appropriately for my mosiac purposes.

Pixelized Image

Here’s where I ended up when I finished pixelizing the image. I had to alter it a bit to fit with Lego colors and I added some detail on the computers so it didn’t look so plain.

Importing to MLCad

Here’s the pattern imported into MLCad. It doesn’t look too bad. It’s a bit hard to make faces in Lego that are this small. And I used some old and new brown that don’t really have a contrast in the real world. But it turned out ok. The green lines are the divisions between the baseplates.

I built this pattern in December of 2008 and built the thing in October of 2016 or so. It has 3,398 pieces or 12,463 studs. it is 3′-1.8″ (96 cm) wide by 2′-8.2″ (81.8 cm) tall.

Final Product

This turned out great and looks just as corny as the saying. He sits over my Star Trek swag collection and grins his way through every day. Here’s a YouTube review I did upon completion.
