Blacktron
& M-Tron
Lego Mosaic

Here’s some info on this relatively unique mosaic. It changes design based on how you look at it!

Pixelized Images

M-Tron and BlackTron were my favorite Lego themes growing up. I hadn’t really thought of doing anything with them until I saw a mosaic made out of cheese slopes. When finished, they created a really neat effect. When you looked at it from on side, you saw mosaic A and, as you walked around, it gradually morphed into mosaic B. Obviously, one with these awesome classic space themes needed to exist.

Importing into MLCad

Building this was a little akward. I actually resorted to building it in the standard way in two different MLCad files and merging them into one picture. Once I finished one of them, I moved each column of slopes over one space so that there would be room for the corresponding bricks from the opposite picture. This worked nicely and made it much easier to build the thing electronically.

I built this pattern in June of 2016. Actual construction is TBD. I have most of the pieces for this model, and those that are missing are on order. It consists of 8,192 cheese slopes or studs. It is 3′-4″ (101.6 cm) wide by 1′-8″ (50.8 cm) tall.

Final Product

I have the black bricks to complete this model, but am missing the rest. This page was built on 1/22/2018. We’ll see how long it takes me to finally build it!
