Wedding
Lego Mosaic

Here’s some detail on my Wedding Lego Mosaic. Hopefully I’ll get to build it someday!

Starting Image

My wife and I got married in out local Mexican Restaurant (pure class) in a year that I can’t remember at this particular moment.  I want to say 2016…?

Anyway, my mom (I think) took this picture.  Lunchbox wants to make it into a Lego Mosaic and hang it over the mantle at home.  Cool idea, actually.

The problem is that we wanted it in gray scale, something to which Lego does not quickly lend its self.  There are a few grays, but they are mostly close in color, so they are difficult to see.  I experimented with several variations of W, VLG, LBG, LG, DG, DGB, and B. I think we came up with the best one??

Image Pixelization

Kind of a pain, I had to use false colors.  Here’s my chart using different numbers of colors in the image.  I think at the end, I just said the hell with it and used them all.  Hopefully the final product will turn out.

Importing to MLCad

I started working on this about 3 months after we got married.  Lunchbox finally shamed me into completing the model on 9/9/2020.

It takes 4,630 pieces to build and is 11,440 studs. It is 2′-3.5″ (70 cm) x 3′-4.625″ (103 cm).  (Part count excludes the fact that VLG only comes in 1×1 plates and I build these with bricks.)

Building

This page was updated on 1/14/22. We’ll see how long it takes me to build it.  I currently only have the VLG plates to build this model.
